The owners of this Circa 1930 home wanted to add a family room, create a new mudroom with more storage space and room for two computer workstations. In addition, the owners wanted to improve circulation through the house as well as create better access to and from the backyard. However, the narrow lot and placement of an existing garage posed a significant problem in achieving their goals. First, the existing garage was picked up and moved back on the property which significantly opened up their property and allowed space for the family room addition to be built. This also allowed better access to and from the backyard. The architect then improved circulation through the home by removing a small mud hall. A small spine replaced the mudroom which created access to the dining room, and new family room, mudroom with storage area and computer workstations.
